CalfCare Events 2018
Spring calves will soon be born on dairy farms across the country, and with more dairy calves due in 2018 than ever before, these practical on-farm events are a must for all dairy farmers who are looking for a refresher on the important aspects of calf husbandry and rearing.
The number of calves born on Irish dairy farms has increased by almost 300,000 over the past decade to an estimated 1.3 million in 2018. In addition, improving dairy herd fertility is resulting in a more concentrated calving season.
With this in mind, Teagasc and Animal Health Ireland in conjunction with Glanbia Ireland, other milk processors and supported by Volac, have joined forces to organise a series of CalfCare events.
Each of the events will focus on four topics:
- Saving labour during the calving season
- Disinfection of calf housing and equipment for healthier calves
- Johne’s control in the young calf
- An update on calf housing specifications
