Glanbia Ireland/Teagasc Open Source Future Farm weekly update

Week ending 4 June 2020

There has been a big variation in growth for the last few weeks. As the above figures show, it is the Future Farms in the most easterly parts of the country that have been most affected. Silage and meal is being fed on affected farms

Milking over 200 cows and 70 replacement units on 106 ha farm. Growth fell to 20 kg DM/ha last week. They reduced demand to 27kg DM/head /day by introducing 6kg DM of meal and 6kg DM silage per head per day.

3 kg of meal is fed in the parlour and 3kg of soyahulls is being fed with the silage. The forecast for growth in grass still doesn’t look good so the preference was to feed 6 kg meal and try and spare the silage. The silage stocks were measured last week and a good second cut will be required.

You can follow them online as they take over Teagasc twitter and instagram accounts on the 11th of June.
