2020 record year for collections
IFFPG collected a record 34,000 tonnes of wrap and sheeting waster in 2020 an achieved a 79% recycling rate, despite disruptions due to covid. This was an 18% increase versus previous years. This confirms that the Irish scheme is one of the most successful of its type in Europe. Last year ‘bring centres’ were pushed back to July – October and farmers took advantage of this less busy time to bring their plastics to the centres.
Many of these ‘Bring Centres’ are in the Glanbia Ireland catchment area. There were about 220 ‘Bring Centres’ in 2020 and Glanbia customers used 53 of these. Within the catchment area the estimate for recycling is over 80% of their crop packaging waste and fertiliser packaging waste- Well above the national average .18 of these centres are run in Glanbia retail outlets.
