Glanbia Ireland Harvest 2020 – Grain Intake Protocols

Dairy

Glanbia Ireland is the largest buyer of native grain in Ireland and in a normal harvest would expect to take in up to 190,000 tonnes of green grain across the harvest period, across 38 different intakes – including external intakes. Harvest is always a busy period across these intakes and health and safety must be a priority for all of us.

This year we must allow for the added complication of the Covid-19 pandemic, there is an onus on all of us to keep each other safe throughout the harvest period.

We have drafted a specific protocol for the intake of grain during harvest 2020. The steps in the protocol will remain the same from site to site, but the sequence may vary depending on the setup on any individual site.

Glanbia Ireland Harvest 2020 – Grain Intake Protocols

  • When the grower or haulier arrives on site, they should join queue for either the weighbridge or the sampling point depending on the particular site in question.
  • They should remain in their vehicle and only exit the vehicle when signalled to do so by the grain intake operator.
  • Reminder! High-vis vests must be worn at all times when on Glanbia Ireland grain sites.
  • In line with recent Government guidelines, it is now mandatory to wear a facemask when exiting vehicles at our grain intake facilities. Your co-operation when visiting our branches is appreciated.
  • When the grain intake operator signals to the grower or haulier to leave the vehicle they should approach the lab or weighbridge office. They should sanitize their hands on entering the area, keep social distance at all times and follow any instructions provided by the grain intake operator.
  • Once advised, they can proceed to the weighbridge area to weigh the grain before tipping. The grower or haulier should then proceed to the location where the grain is to be tipped.
  • Reminder! Please obey the speed limits at all times, which is 15 km/h on all Glanbia Ireland sites.
  • When tipping the grain the grower or haulier should maintain a 2 metre social distance at all times from anybody in this area.
  • When the tipping area has cleared, they should move on to the weighbridge and remain in their vehicle until called by the grain intake operator.
  • Growers or hauliers should not enter the weighbridge office unless invited to do so by the grain intake operator. They should use their own pen or if given a pen by the grain operator, take this pen away to be used for future signing.
  • Once the weighbridge docket has been signed, the grower or haulier should return to their vehicle and leave the site immediately.

We are asking those entering our retail branches to follow Government advice and wear a face mask for the protection of shoppers and also our staff.

We have strong protocols in place across all of our Agri Retail Branches and CountryLife stores. In addition to sanitisation stations, perspex screens at tills and social distancing; our staff will also be wearing face masks in our branches.

It is very important for all of us, that growers and hauliers coming on site follow the steps of this protocol. Having a safe harvest is in all our interests. Thank you in advance for complying and working with us to make sure we go through the harvest period safely.
