Castlelyons 100th year Celebration

The community of Castlelyons and Glanbia celebrated the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Castlelyons Co-operative in 1917 on June 16th.

A beautful day and plenty of activities brought out a huge crowd to this all-inclusive event, with shareholders, employees, former employees and local residents all enjoying the celebratory event last Friday.

The day was kicked off with the opening of the new Garden Centre by the O’Donnell Family which was followed by an interview with local horse training hero Jimmy Mangan. The GAA was well represented at the event by Briege Corkery, Cork senior camogie player as well as a panel which included Waterford’s John Mullane and Cork’s Timmy McCarthy.

Minister Michael Creed performed the official opening ceremony together with Glanbia Chairman Henry Corbally, CEO Siobhan Talbot, Chairperson of the local advisory committee, David Murphy, Patricia Fouhy-Barry, Glanbia council member for the area and Board Member Patsy Aherne.

The committee have produced a book on the history of the co-operative movement of which copies are available from Committee members.
