Air of optimism and confidence at Laois Signpost Future Farm event

Corporate Co-op

Farmers from the Laois Teagasc Discussion Groups who met outdoors for an event at Tom & David Fennelly’s land at Tinakill, Portarlington, Co Laois have expressed optimism and confidence about the future and a willingness to rise to challenges, in spite of the many hurdles that lie ahead.

The Fennelly's are participants in the Glanbia Ireland/Teagasc Signpost Future Farms programme. The programme aims to lead climate action and achieve early progress in reducing gaseous emissions from Irish agriculture whilst also improving water quality, maintaining and improving bio-diversity, reducing costs and creating more profitable and sustainable farming enterprises.

Participants were eager and there was great engagement on the day on topical and practical subject areas such as Carbon footprint to multi-species swards, farm profitability, animal health and water quality. In attendance on the day was GI’s ASSAP advisor alongside the local Teagasc ASSAP advisor. Both discussed the programme and the excellent work being carried out in the areas for action throughout the country.
