Animal Health Ireland and Teagasc are set to host a Calf Care Farm event on the farm of Eamon McEnteggart, Co Louth on 10 December at 11am.

Points to be discussed on the day will include:

 

Do you have enough space to house 75% of the calves due to arrive on your farm next spring?

  • How many calves can be catered for on your farm already?
  • Will you require extra space?
  • Have you considered temporary housing, if required?

  • High standards of calf welfare are essential. Following best practice advice will ensure that high standards are maintained.
  • Update yourself on the current and emerging issues around calf welfare.

 

Healthy, well reared calves are saleable calves.

  • So how do you ensure your calves will attract a buyer?
  • A list of requirements to assist dairy farmers preparing calves for sale will be discussed.

 

To achieve their full growth throughout their life, calves must be fed correctly from the start.
